Take the Montessori method into the realm of foreign languages with these 3-part cards in Spanish. Use these for early reading work in native speakers or as second language work for the native English speaker. These cards feature common objects that the children encounter in their daily lives. The Around Town Spanish packet contains photos of the objects the child encounters everyday including traffic light, fire hydrant, barricade, crosswalk, telephone pole, and more (12 images total, 36 cards in the packet). Because the objects are relevant to the children, they are interested in them and then able to internalize the Spanish vocabulary with ease. Unlike with English, the Spanish cards include the article (eg, el) before the noun to clarify the noun's gender. Begin by using the photo-only cards in a three-period lesson to present the new vocabulary. Once children can read, introduce the word labels so children can match the word to the corresponding photo. They use the control cards to check their own work. You can download free lesson plans (text or mp3) from our website. Approx. card sizes are as follows: 12 control cards are 3¾" x 4¼"; 12 picture cards are 3¾" x 3"; and 12 word cards are 3¾" x 1¼" (36 cards in each packet). All cards have rounded corners, are laminated with a heavy 5 mil non-toxic laminate, and come in a reclosable bag for easy storage.
