What happens when an ordinary English teacher is faced with extraordinary circumstances? The Yoder Incident chronicles how one non-descript day forever changed the life of an average man. Jaegan Yoder's wife left him for another man. Stressed and tired of his life, he takes a Friday off from his job as an English teacher and heads to his cabin in the Saskatchewan mountains for a little R&R. En route, he happens upon a fatal accident between a security van and a logging truck. Upon closer inspection, Yoder finds gold bricks and large amounts of cash. With no one around, Yoder takes the booty and leaves. A year later, Yoder's life takes another bizarre twist. During a fishing trip, he comes upon an overturned canoe with two injured children. He rescues them and races to the hospital. There he meets a beautiful Chinese doctor who has a problem of international proportions. Will Yoder help the young doctor? Will his growing affection for her get in the way of common sense? The Yoder Incident is a heartwarming tale of the foibles of human nature and how, at times, those shortcomings can lead to revelation and redemption of the soul. Recognize yourself in Jaegan Yoder and you'll be rooting for his happy ending. Author Mark Smith is a retired professor who taught at Cornwall College in Jamaica and an international school in Switzerland. He taught English in Western Canada for twenty-eight years, during which time he also participated in teaching exchanges to Australia, the United States, and back to Switzerland. Bored with retirement, he and his wife worked in Shanghai, South Korea and Beijing. They now live in Canada where they spend their time fishing, playing tennis, reading, and of course, traveling. The Yoder Incident is his first novel.
