I started to play, noticing right off that the poor colonel had fallen asleep and when I started to play "Garry Owen," he jumped up and started yelling at people to get down, "The enemy is near us". His subordinates tried very hard to calm him down while signaling me to keep going. I kept playing, but the whole ceremony was pretty much at an end because a young lady fainted, a few others ran away scared, and the poor colonels wife, I didn't see what happened to her. In the end, I kept on playing and playing because no one told me to stop, they just kept motioning to keep going and going. I felt like the Energizer Bunny for while. I played as soldiers and family ran here and there. But at least the food was good. This humorous story is only a taste of the entertaining and amusing things author and musician Edward Channon has experienced and observed while playing his bagpipes all over the world. Edward Channon has been playing the bagpipes for over 35 years at weddings, parties, funerals, military functions, and many other gatherings. He wrote this book, Ballad of a Bagpiper, to share the funny stories and things he observed while at these events.
