9781608092284: Seconds to Midnight (A Donovan Nash Thriller)

For hard-core adrenaline junkies... delivers high-octane action from the first page to the last." ―Mystery Scene Magazine

While on a routine Eco-Watch flight above northern Canada to study one of the most powerful solar flares in history, Donovan Nash and Michael Ross narrowly miss colliding with another aircraft a Boeing 737 that's not supposed to be there. With the mysterious 737 trailing smoke, Donovan and Michael watch as the stricken aircraft makes an emergency landing on a frozen lake.

As the Boeing breaks through the ice and begins to sink, a figure escapes into the frigid water and manages to climb up onto the ice. Donovan reaches the lone survivor and discovers it's a young woman. Just before she blacks out, she whispers a dire warning, "Don't let them know I'm alive―they'll kill everyone."

Seconds to Midnight plunges Donovan Nash and the Eco-Watch team into a fight for their lives. While Donovan searches for answers at the bottom of a frozen lake in Canada, his wife, Lauren, runs from operatives embedded in the top levels of the Russian government. With communication in the Northern Hemisphere crippled by the massive solar storm, Donovan, Michael, and Lauren battle for each second, as the clock ticks toward a possible Armageddon.

Review:

"Like his previous thrillers, Donlay’s Seconds to Midnight is impossible to put down."
Manhattan Book Review (Five Stars)

"Some of the best reading ever created!"
Suspense Magazine

"...fast-paced plots, usually involving espionage of some kind, have been praised by the late Vince Flynn, William Kent Krueger and Steve Berry for careful research, spot-on dialogue and glimpses into the world of international spying."
St. Paul Pioneer Press

"Part Stone Barrington, part Dirk Pitt (though a happily married version), Donovan Nash leads the scientific research organization Eco-Watch into another thrilling adventure (following Pegasus Down, 2016). While flying over northern Canada to gather information about solar flares, Nash and his team see a Boeing 737 attempt to make an emergency landing in order for them to rescue the crash's lone survivor from the icy waters. In and out of consciousness, the woman whispers to Nash, 'Don't let them know I'm alive―they'll kill everyone.' Never one to shy away from a challenge, Nash races to get to the bottom of the crash. Arms dealers, spies, sex traffickers, and Russian nationalists are all somehow tied to this woman, to what happened on that plane, and to the fate of the world as we know it. A fast, splashy adventure with tons of gadgets, fake IDs, and last-minute, life-saving bolts through the doors of the American embassy."
Booklist

"Buckle up for a wild ride in this thrilling Arctic adventure!"
Fresh Fiction

"Philip Donlay’s suspenseful Seconds to Midnight brings us another Donovan Nash adventure (after Deadly Echoes and Pegasus Down). This time around, a plane crash survivor in the Arctic holds the key to a terrorist plot designed to start World War Three. The pacing is fast in this one―sometimes too fast for adequate character development―but thrills abound when the Eco-Watch pilot and his team rush to stop an imminent nuclear exchange. Set in various countries―Canada, Austria, England, Poland, etc.―the reader is treated to a whirlwind of violent clashes and personal betrayals, while Nash attempts to make sense of the crash survivor’s scattered memories before the first bomb is detonated. All this is set against the backdrop of a solar storm, which hinders communications from not only one team to another, but from nation to nation. This is a book meant for hard-core adrenaline junkies, and as such, delivers high-octane action from the first page to the last. Don’t read Seconds to Midnight before tightening your seat belt."
Mystery Scene Magazine

"A ridiculously fast paced book. I doubt anyone who picks this up will take more than a day or two to finish.”
Men Reading Books

"Donovan and his wife, Lauren, a Defense Intelligence Agency operative, join forces with various others to solve the mystery of the doomed 737―and the unidentified woman, who's later abducted from a Minneapolis hospital while still unconscious."
