For beginner and intermediate turners, this handy resource provides all the information needed to get started -- and what to expect – in the craft of woodturning. Based on the most commonly voiced questions and concerns the author has encountered during his thirty years of teaching, writing, and demonstrating, The Woodturner’s FAQ Book, Revised is a workshop companion that quickly answers any woodturning question so more time is spent at the lathe instead of scratching your head. Divided into twelve insightful chapters, The Woodturner’s FAQ Book, Revised answers the two key questions of any new woodturner: “What Do I Need To Turn Wood?” and “What Do I Turn?” Within these two sections, expert guidance details what type of lathe to buy, what tools and chucks are needed, which accessories are handy to have, how to sharpen, what’s the best wood, how to turn a bowl, spindle, and sphere, the critical steps to finishing and much, much more. In addition to the extensive question-and-answer format that facilitates easy access to expert information, a helpful appendix offers further insight with a glossary, insight into woods, book recommendations, and more. The Woodturner’s FAQ Book, Revised is the perfect reference for any woodturner’s shelf.

About the Author:
Fred Holder lives in Snohomish, Washington, USA with his wife Mildred and has been turning wood since 1988. He does not specialize in any particular thing, but continues to experiment with different techniques. He has done quite a bit of segmented work; multi-centered work (using the Robert Sorby Eccentric Chuck and an Escoulin type ball and socket chuck); bowls both regular shaped and natural edge; making regular balls; making the Chinese Ball; hand chasing of threads for boxes, walking stick joins, or any place where a threaded joint is needed; and a lot of other techniques. Fred is also proficient in the use of several thread cutting jigs that are used in conjunction with the wood lathe and has used the tap and die and tap and screw box to cut threads in wood for many years. Fred has been a member of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW) since 1991, is a member of the National Association of Woodturners New Zealand, is a member of the International Wood Collectors Society, and is a member of the Seattle Chapter of AAW. Fred has a Web Site on the WWW, with a lot of good information on woodturning, at http://www.morewoodturningmagazine.com and can be reached by e-mail at fred@morewoodturningmagazine.com.
