In Living the Mass we encounter the Holy Eucharist as paschal mystery, the “Source and Summit of the Christian Life.” We encounter God’s love for us through what God has done and is doing for us in the Eucharist. The book presents the paschal mystery defined in a Trinitarian mode as the passion, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus and the sending of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. It also presents new theology on the paschal mystery based primarily on the abandonment text of Matthew 27:46.

God gives God’s self to us in love through the Mass as the ongoing work of redemption, and we imitate that love in response by living the Mass in everyday life—professing Christ, growing in virtue, overcoming sinful tendencies, increasing in knowledge of God, and exercising faith, hope, and love.

About the Author:

Br. Christopher Lucas was born on Christmas day outside Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 1934. With a degree from Scranton University in mathematics, he worked as a mathematician, computer programmer and supervisor in industry. In 1982, he settled as a Trappist monk and five years later made solemn profession. He earned a master’s degree and taught theology in several Trappist houses over the following two decades.  Br. Christopher has had a variety of jobs (Trappists favor manual labor), including serving for over 10 years as director for junior monks.

Review:

“Read this account of a contemplative of Our Lady of Gethsemani gazing on the gift of the Holy Eucharist.  Seeing the “self-giving love” of Jesus, Brother Christopher moves the reader from gratitude to conversion to joy.”—Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, Archbishop of Louisville

"Br. Christopher's book sparkles with the fresh and startling insights that are the fruit of deep and sustained contemplative prayer. In accessible languange on beautifully printed pages he calls us back to the challenges and glory of Eucharistic Christian living."
—Right Reverend Mark Scott, Abbot of New Melleray Abbey, Peosta, IA

"How useful and inspiring it is to be in the company of a contemplative monk pondering in depth the Eucharistic mysteries. May this book lead us deeper into active participation in th Liturgy."
—Lawrence S. Cunningham, The University of Notre Dame

Book Description Paraclete Press. Paperback. Condition: New. 124 pages. This book is for anyone who is hesitant about Confession. Our understanding of the sacrament reveals our image of God. If our image of God is one of an uncompromising judge, then the sacrament can fill us with dread, Father Paul begins. Instead of coming to Confession to avoid judgment and hellfire, Farren paints a picture of the sacrament that has a loving God behind it who longs for a restored relationship with his children. There are two who confess: God and the penitent. In fact, God is the primary confessor when he confesses his forgiveness for and trust in the one who is celebrating the sacrament. Confession is about Gods great love for us! This item ships from multiple locations. Your book may arrive from Roseburg,OR, La Vergne,TN. Paperback. Seller Inventory # 9781612616841
