In Their Generations is the story of four generations of a remarkable and captivating family. It begins with the account of a young English explorer who travels to Africa to find the source of the Blue Nile, stays to serve King Theodore of Abyssinia and dies defending the King's life. His daughter marries a German missionary, is enslaved by King Theodore and rescued by the famous British Expeditionary Force of 1868. Their four daughters are raised in the mountains of Lebanon, where their father helps to create a campus of Quaker schools. The fourth generation are the author's parents whose lives are shaped by World War II and the American Civil Rights Movement, and who exemplify America's greatest generation.
