Synopsis

A comprehensive study and resource manual that serves as a best practices guide for the design, installation, and maintenance of geothermal systems, this book draws on the author s more than 30 years of hands-on geothermal field experience. The text covers geothermal systems and controls from their widespread introduction to the U.S. market in the early 1970s to the multistage ultra-high-efficiency systems of today. Study topics include both open-loop and closed-loop applications, subsurface geology, loop design, water chemistry, antifreeze solutions, system installation, and controls. Emphasis is placed on identifying common installation and service mistakes, and on learning from those mistakes. This book gives business owners, sales staff, installers, and technicians a step up on the competition and imparts the knowledge necessary to maintain consumer confidence and appreciation. Geothermal systems represent one of the best means available for meeting the growing interest in renewable energy technology.

About the Author

JEFF PERSONS, CM, the president of Geo Source One Inc., holds a Master s degree in geology and is a groundwater hydrogeologist with over 35 years of experience in the geothermal heat pump and hydronic industry. Jeff began his involvement with geothermal systems in the mid-1970s as a way to encourage energy conservation and reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil. In 1986, after a decade of promoting geothermal technology through seminars, manuals, and product design assistance, Jeff founded a geothermal services company that has evolved into Geo Source One Inc. Based in Columbus, Ohio, the company specializes in the design and installation of custom geothermal and radiant heating systems. In addition, Jeff provides design and field assistance to a multitude of architects, engineers, and contractors.
