Written for young adults, the Urban Underground series confronts issues that are of great importance to teens, such as friendship, loyalty, drugs, gangs, abuse, urban blight, bullies, and self-esteem to name a few. More than entertainment, these books can be a powerful learning and coping tool when a struggling reader connects with credible characters and a compelling storyline. The highly readable style and mature topics will appeal to young adult readers of both sexes and encourage them to finish each novel.

Harriet Tubman HS Series-- Loud talk preceded shouting, and then shots rang out. One boy was lying on the sidewalk. Police were not saying so, but he appeared to be dead. At school on Monday, everybody at Tubman was talking about the Grant Street shooting. As far as anybody could tell, the victim was an innocent bystander.

From the Inside Flap:

Harriet Tubman HS Series-- On the brink of her freshman year at Tubman High, something clicked in Chelsea's mind. Shadrach rescued animals. And in a way, he saved kids by teaching them respect. Now she and her friends were rescuers by volunteering at the shelter. Jaris was a rescuer too. He was trying to save Sereeta's mom. And, maybe Maurice would have to rescue Athena from getting into trouble.

About the Author:

Award-Winning Author, Anne Schraff, published her first book when she was just a teenager. Discovering her love for writing at such a young age, Anne used her personal experiences, living amidst segregation in the 1950s, as inspiration. She received her BA and MA from Cal State University at Northridge. She was a high school teacher in San Diego before deciding to write full time. Living through times of racial strife left an indelible impression on her, which continues to inspire her to this day.
