Vince Daubenspeck likes to live a life of adventure. He has flown fighter jets in the military, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, ran the Honolulu Marathon, and been bitten catching rattlesnakes in Arizona. (Okay kids, don't try that last one!) Vince has a passion for fishing and likes to relax while reading children's stories. He currently lives with his beautiful wife on the North Shore of O'ahu and loves to swim with the whales.
Don Robinson, an artist/illustrator for over 25 years, is mostly self-taught and credits Picasso and Norman Rockwell as his early influences. He has illustrated numerous children's books, one of which was awarded the 2004 HVCB Kahili Award for Literary Arts and another that was awarded the 2005 Ka Palapala Po'okela Award for excellencein children's illustrative or photographic books. Don's artwork can also be seen in local island galleries.
In March of 2012, the author had an amazing encounter with Kohola and his mother and father off the coast of O'ahu. Well, maybe it wasn't Kohola, but it sure looked like him with slightly shorter fins. And who knows? Maybe that young whale will grow up to be the next King of the Whales. You will be as thrilled as Kekela when you turn the pages of this beautiful Hawaiian legend. Swim along with young Kohola as he explores the sunny waters of the Pacific Ocean and north to the dangerous seas of Canada and Alaska. See how he overcomes the rejection and loneliness of being a little different, and how he learns to use his special skills to help those around him. The story of Kohola offers a timeless lesson for young and old alike.
