Annie Bell never expected to get as lucky as the day she was made head chef of Riversong, the hottest restaurant to hit her quaint Oregon town. What starts as a quiet gig, quickly grows as Annie's reputation soars to new heights and she becomes known as one of the best chefs in the Pacific Northwest. But the publicity brings unwanted attention.
One day she receives a threatening phone call from her abusive ex-boyfriend, Marco. Learning he is out on parole breeds terror in Annie. Even more disturbing is the realization that Marco is hungry for revenge, blaming her for his ten-year imprisonment.
Fearing for her life and that of her young son, Annie reluctantly accepts help from Drake Webber, a handsome and wealthy recluse who hides a dark history of his own.
Author Tess Thompson reunites the colorful cast of endearing characters from her bestselling novel, Riversong, and takes readers on a journey of faith, friendship and ultimately, love.
Riverbend is a reader's escape blending love, laughter, friendship, suspense and gourmet food while reminding that it's never too late for second chances.

I wrote this book after my first husband moved out of our house. During the long weekends when my daughters were with him, I sat at my keyboard and wrote Annie's story. She was and is one of my favorite characters--she's so full of doubt and worry, just like me. Also, like me, she has a passion for an art form (cooking) that isn't always an easy path. I love the way she mothers Alder and her big, soft heart. I poured a lot of my love for my daughters into their story. A single mom trying like crazy to make a good life for her little boy.
It broke my heart to write Drake's story. What happens to him is every parent's worst nightmare. His decision to hide away from the world and wither away to nothing is completely understandable. Yet, he learns to live again when he falls in love with Annie and Alder. To me, this is a story of the ultimate redemption through love. Our painful past is not erased and it certainly informs our present, but if we're offered love, we must always take it. To love is to live.
Tess Thompson is a bestselling novelist of romantic suspense. She's also a Zumba dancing queen, though the wearing of the crown is reserved for invitation-only appearances. Recently she's participated in obstacle course races, the hardest of which was the Spartan Beast in Sun Peaks, British Columbia. It was an awful experience that will soon be included in a novel. There was running. And climbing a mountain. And obstacles, like walls and crawling under barbed wire. She is not the running or obstacle queen.
Like her characters in the River Valley Collection, Tess hails from a small town in southern Oregon, and will always feel like a small town girl, despite the fact she's lived in Seattle for over twenty-five years. She loves music and dancing, books and bubble baths, cooking and wine, movies and snuggling. She cries at sappy commercials and thinks kissing in the rain should be done whenever possible. Although she tries to act like a lady, there may or may not have been a few times in the last several years when she's gotten slightly carried away watching the Seattle Seahawks play, but that could also just be a nasty rumor.
She currently lives in a suburb of Seattle, Washington with her brand new husband, the hero of her own love story, and their Brady Bunch clan of two sons, two daughters and five cats, all of whom keep her too busy, often confused, but always amazed. Yes, that's four kids, three of whom are teenagers, and five cats. Pray for her.
