Hello, I'm Catherine Hagerman Pangan and my son, Hudson, and I wrote this book together when he was three years old. We wrote the book the day he was diagnosed with a life-threatening peanut allergy and on the car ride home, I kept thinking about how I was going to educate him in a proactive, positive way.
After we got home, Hudson sat on my lap at the computer and we came up with the foods he loved to eat with his family to focus on the can, instead of can't. The book idea came to life. We still had extremely candid talks about nuts and how they would affect his body, but creating this book was a great starting point in the conversation.
Hudson is now a lot older and has a little sister named Violet (the mouse in the story), and a wonderful Dad who loves to play Legos and read vintage comics with him. I'm a former fourth grade teacher turned education professor at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. We all hope you enjoy the book!
Dr. Catherine Hagerman Pangan is an Assistant Professor in the College of Education at Butler University. Catherine is a former fourth grade teacher and enjoys teaching students of all ages.
