One Friday night in mid-January, an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) struck the United States, knocking out the nation's electrical grid and thrusting the country into cold darkness. The streets and highways are littered with stalled vehicles and confused occupants.
Communications, electricity, banking, running water, sanitation services, and food deliveries are things of the past.
People are stunned and desperate. They don't understand what has happened. Many are stranded on the highways. Others stay in their homes for as long as they can, waiting for help that never comes. Finally, they start walking. Most have no destination, while others try to reach their loved ones hundreds of miles away.
The characters are everyday people with ordinary lives. This is a story of survival, love, death, and hope.
This novel is based primarily in north Louisiana and in a small community in northwest Arkansas.

Even though this book is a work of fiction the reader will learn a lot. There are tips, recipes, and other useful knowledge woven throughout the story.
The characters are fictitious, but the locations are actual places.
The story will make you think about your ability to survive a catastrophic event.
The topics in my novel are important to me. I believe in being prepared for any type of emergency. Being prepared gives me a sense of calm. Any emergency becomes less daunting if you are prepared and have the basic needs of life. Being prepared turns an emergency into an inconvenience.
There are many weirdo, paranoid, doomsday freaks out there. I am not one of those people. I am just an ordinary person who believes in being responsible for myself and my family, and I want to help others learn to do the same.
The intent of this novel is to be entertaining while making the reader think about their own preparedness.
