From the Author:
Having been raised in a Baptist Church on Long Island, NY, I was active in youth programs and soon after became a youth group leader.
In 2002, I was challenged. How about all of these activities you have been creating to use with youth? When are you going to write them all down?
Five years later my first book, "Not the Same Old, Done-it-before Youth Meetings", was published, 350 pages of activities for Christian Youth leaders to use in their youth programs. The book has been a success with over 2,000 copies sold.
As time passed, it became apparent that something truly new was needed. The Chest of Visions was originally written for my website, Christianyouthgroup.org, and chapters were released on a monthly basis. The online story was popular so the decision to write an illustrated book was an easy one. In July 2012 the book was published.
The story does not end with Chapter Ten of the book, entitled "Heaven". Rather it continues with an additional year and a half of the events in Caperston and those on Long Island. The continuation of the story of Mattpaul, Huchfee, Michaeling, Alex and Laura has been made public on christianyouthgroup.org. New events in the emerging story are highlighted on a Facebook page entitled "Friends of Mattpaul".
From the Inside Flap:
Book Review by Ann B. of Reader's Favorite (Fives stars out of five)
In this book we meet youth from two different worlds. One which Jesus hasn't arrived yet, and the inhabitants do not know God. Throughout the book there are letters being sent between Tim, Alex, Mattpaul, and Huchfee and during these letters Alex and Mattpaul become friends. Mattpaul is being challenged with wanting to become a follower of Chihaysu, when his parents, and community are against the man. Alex is also being challenged in faith as well, stepping away from God and the church.
This book is unlike any other Christian book I've read. Once I opened this book, I couldn't set it down. This book is perfect for youth and even adults, it answers questions in a way people can easily understand it. It's perfect for a youth group read. The artwork in this book is also amazing. It really brings the story to life.
Positive Elements: We are all faced with set backs, and a lot of times we struggle with our faith. We wonder why God would let this happen. God is all around us, he has a plan for everything. This plan may not seem ideal for me or you, but never lose your faith, always trust in God.
Other Thoughts: I love this book! I think it's perfect for a youth group read and study, since they have lessons for youth groups in the back of the book. If I was already a youth minister, I would use this book in my group. But since that's ways off, I'm going to recommend this to my pastor for our youth at church. This book is part of an anticipated trilogy, I cannot wait to read the other books in this series.
