Nellie Bly was born as Elizabeth Jane Cochran and she was a risk-taker. She once read an article that described women as weak. Bly was so angry, she wrote the editor. The editor was so impressed with Blys passion, he hired her! This was when she created the pen name Nellie Bly. Bly spent ten days undercover in a womans insane asylum to find out what the conditions were like. She went around the world in 72 days. She was a reporter during World War II and she even owned a pet monkey! Womens rights were important to Nellie Bly for most of her life. She made it her mission to not only improve life for women, but also to be a model of what a strong woman looked like.
