In Who Needs a Missionary? Robert Reese reviews his own missionary experiences in Zimbabwe and finds that the best results came from an indigenous leader who had the least contact with missionaries. Reese conducted interviews with this leader to let him speak for himself about his journey with God in ministry; these interviews form the heart of the book. Mostly without missionary guidance, this Zimbabwean Christian of humble origins journeyed from his conversion to Christ to arrive at a transformation of his home community. Reese draws lessons from the life of this remarkable leader, who has enjoyed so few earthly advantages, yet has been rich in faith and fruitfulness. God has determined that the gospel will work all by itself whenever and wherever it is planted in human hearts.

''The book outlines peculiar difficulties and circumstances familiar in Africa but foreign to the West. The reader's immersion into contexts that Reese knows only too well imparts a profound glimpse of a dynamic non-Western society. A highly recommended read for anyone concerned with God's purposes in Africa today.''
--Jim Harries, Missionary, East Africa
''Walk along the dusty African trails with Preacher Isaac as he lives out the gospel among his Tongan neighbors--who in turn curse him, threaten him, but eventually join him in acknowledging Jesus as Savior. This true story of a man from Zimbabwe is rife with the lessons he learns from Scripture, putting them into daily practice. . . . Robert Reese was there. He has provided us with a treasure trove of biblical insight.''

''Read, heed, plant the seed of the gospel, and watch God grow his church in ways only he can!''
--Christopher R. Little, Professor of Intercultural Studies, Columbia International University, Columbia, SC
''Although this book is about Isaac, a Zimbabwean man of God, there is an underlying story of how Spiritism permeates everything and anything to do with missions. I recommend Who Needs A Missionary? as a clever way to gain much-needed wisdom of the complicated realities of when Christianity meets Spiritism.''
