Review

I discovered between the pages of this book an intriguing historical recounting of clothing. I was immediately drawn into a presentation of rectangular garments from cultures around the world. Wrapped, draped, toga-style dress that we've all tried to duplicate time and time again for a Greek party or Halloween is outlined step-by-step. The possibilities as to what you can do with a piece of fabric are endless. Ancient cultures made complete wardrobes usually without sewing or fasteners. Anita Luvera Mayer displays neat sketches of different cultural designs in skirts, vests, ponchos, kimonos, waistcoats and jackets, shirts, necklines, sleeves, pockets and hoods. She also provides hints and instructions for creating new clothes out of age-old designs from around the world. -- From The WomanSource Catalog & Review: Tools for Connecting the Community for Women; review by SH
