As a son of the king, one would think a prince would live a life of glamour, prestige, and admiration, but that wasn't the case for Richard. Even though Richard grew up in a hostile and tumultuous background, he proved much stronger than his dad gave him credit for. He became a king of chivalry, courage, and respect from all of those around him. Many not only respected him, but feared him and therefore honored him as the true king. He became a crusader and fought many wars for the name of Christ. He wasn't a perfect King, but tried to honor his mother and his kingdom the best way he knew how. His life came to an unexpected end by the hand of a young man.

This book was hard to write because I wanted to express what great of a historical figure Richard the Lionheart was without making it sound too boring. It gives explicit details of what it was to be a Crusader. Some parts may sound too ficticious and some may question whether they really happened. It is written for enjoyment and pleasure and after all it is a fiction book, and I hope the readers will take this into consideration when reading it. The medieval period was quite different than the way things are done today. You might not appreciate how Richard treated women but that is exactly how they were treated.
