About the Author

Dr. Milton Love is a research biologist at the Marine Science Institute, University of California, Santa Barbara. He has conducted research on the marine fishes of California for over 40 years and is the author of over 90 publications on the fishes of the Pacific Coast and has written the books Certainly More Than You Want to Know About the Fishes of the Pacific Coast, A Guide to the Rockfishes, Thornyheads, and Scorpionfishes of the Northeast Pacific, and The Rockfishes of the Northeast Pacific.

For the past 18 years, and using a manned research submersible, Dr. Love has carried out surveys of the fish populations living around natural reefs and oil/gas platforms throughout the southern California Bight.

Dr. Julianne Kalman Passarelli is a marine biologist who specializes in parasitology and ecology of marine fishes. Dr. Passarelli is the Education and Collections Curator at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium (CMA) in San Pedro, California. She manages the educational programs and provides curatorial support to the aquarium s museum collection.

She also runs a field research program and conducts long-term monitoring surveys in marine habitats near Cabrillo Beach. She uses many of her field research projects to engage local students and volunteers. She is a Lecturer at California State University, Long Beach and is a Research Associate at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.

She is a past President of the Southern California Academy of Sciences (SCAS) and recently hosted the 13th International Conference on Copepoda in 2017 at CMA.
