Process management is a popular activity in business organizations that is growing in its adoption as companies come to understand that competitive advantage hinges on their ability to efficiently and effectively process traditional transactions, while integrating operations with different types of social networking and use of emerging technologies in an environment of rapid change. In addition, job redesign to incorporate job gamification and increasing pressures for cost containment, user outreach, and environmental consciousness in all operational activities have become key to business success. Process Mapping and Management (PMM) seeks to address these issues by concentrating on process improvement that incorporates analysis of all of these key areas of interest. Automation, co-production, outsourcing, and environmental consciousness are all considered desirable outcomes of an improvement effort. PMM can be used by businesses to train staff and integrate analysis of processes into organizational change activities whether they are for automation or not, or could be used by universities in either undergraduate or graduate courses to teach business process improvement fundamentals.
