Letters To God: Journey To Israel, May 2024, by Veteran Teams 37-40
We are commanded to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might.” What happens when your connection to God is severed due to feeling that required actions due to war are sins against God and His commandments? Many combat veterans return home with moral injury, the shame and guilt from actions taken or not taken during war that had horrific results. Moral injuries are soul crushing injuries that cause a severing from faith, isolation from others, and self-destruction. For those suffering from moral injury, there is no key to faith.
Heroes To Heroes has found that key. Through a 12-month curriculum-based journey that includes 10-days in Israel. American and IDF (Israel Defense Forces) veterans reconnect with God, their faith, their families, and one another. During the journey to Israel, they write letters to God, helping them clarify their relationships with Him, to begin their healing process.
To our Heroes, please accept this published work as a reminder of God’s love and your growth. May you find strength and blessing in reading and re-reading your letter and the letters of your brothers and sisters.
