Pearl Louise Krush finds inspiration for designing wherever she goes. She designed for a New York lace company for about 10 years before creating her own pattern company. With over 800 designs in her files, she still find this creative career exciting and challenging. CHAPTER 1

Jar Wrapper

Decorate any jar for the winter months to come.

Cutting

Prepare templates for Snowman No. 4 and Camper No. 1 using the patterns provided.

From black wool or wool felt cut:

• 1 each Camper No. 1 hitch and tire

From orange wool or wool felt cut:

• 1 Snowman No. 4 nose

From gray wool or wool felt cut:

• 1 each Camper No. 1 door and hubcap

From cream wool or wool felt cut:

• 1 each Camper No. 1 front window, door window and rear window

From aqua wool or wool felt cut:

• 1 Snowman No. 4 hat

• 1 Camper No. 1 camper

From red wool or wool felt cut:

• 1 each Snowman No. 4 hat brim and scarf

• 2 Snowman No. 4 scarf tails

• 1 each Camper No. 1 chimney, camper bottom front and camper bottom rear

From white wool or wool felt cut:

• 1 (1¼" × 16") B strip

• 1 Snowman No. 4 body

•1 (5" × 16") A strip

Completing the Wrapper

1. Pin the B strip on one long edge of A and blanket-stitch on all edges using 2 strands of white embroidery floss.

2. Referring to the Placement Diagram, layer Snowman No. 4 and Camper No. 1 appliqués in numerical order along the long edge of the unit from step 1. When satisfied with placement, pin in place.

3. Using 2 strands of white embroidery floss, blanket-stitch around each appliqué.

4. Referring to the Snowman Face Embroidery placement diagram, transfer markings and use 2 strands of black embroidery floss to stitch French knots for eyes and cross stitches for mouth on snowman.

5. Place the jar wrapper around the canning jar, overlap the ends and mark. Remove from jar and blanket-stitch the overlapped edges using 2 strands of white embroidery floss to finish.

Camper Kitchen Towels

Completing the Towels

1. Press under¼" to the wrong side on all sides of an A strip. Repeat with all A strips.

2. Position an A strip¼ up from the bottom of a towel. Using matching thread, sew around all folded edges of A to secure. Repeat with remaining towels.

3. Referring to Placement Diagrams, layer appliqué motifs in numerical order on towels from step 2. When satisfied with placement, fuse in place.

4. Using matching thread, machine blanket-stitch around each appliqué.

5. Referring to the Snowman Face Embroidery placement diagram, transfer markings and use 2 strands of black embroidery floss to stitch French knots for eyes and cross stitches for mouths on snowmen to complete.

Completing the Mug Rug

Refer to Assembly Diagram, Placement Diagram and project photos while completing.

1. Arrange and sew C squares to make a bottom border as shown in

2. Referring to the Assembly Diagram, sew the B strip on one long side of A. Press. Join the border from step 1 to the B strip. Press.

3. Layer Snowman No. 4 and Camper No. 1 appliqués in numerical order along the A-B edge of the unit from step 2. When satisfied with placement, fuse in place.

4. Using matching thread, machine blanket-stitch around each appliqué.

5. Referring to the Snowman Face Embroidery placement diagram, transfer markings, use 2 strands of black embroidery floss to stitch French knots for eyes and cross stitches for mouth on snowman.

6. Create a quilt sandwich referring to Quilting Basics on page 48.

7. Quilt as desired.

8. Bind the edges referring to Quilting Basics on page 48.

9. Referring to General Instructions on page 5, use 2 strands of white embroidery floss to stitch "snowflakes" as desired on the background.

Completing the Place Mats

1. Arrange and sew one C strip of each color as shown in Figure 1 to make a strip set. Press. Make 2 strip sets. Subcut strip sets into 36 (½") C strips.

2. Sew C strips together to make a pieced side border as shown in Figure 2. Press. Make 8.

3. Sew C strips together to make a pieced bottom border as shown in Figure 3. Press. Make 4.

4. Sew a B strip on one long side of A. Press. Make 4.

5. Referring to the Placement Diagram, layer Snowman No. 4 and Camper No. 1 appliqués in numerical order along the long edge of a unit from step 4. When satisfied with placement, fuse in place.

6. Using matching thread, machine blanket-stitch around each appliqué.

7. Referring to the Snowman Face Embroidery placement diagram, transfer markings, use 2 strands of black embroidery floss to stitch French knots for eyes and cross stitches for mouth on snowman.

8. Sew border strips from step 2 to each side of the unit from step 5. Press. Sew a border strip from step 3 to bottom to complete one place mat top. Press.

9. Repeat steps 5–8 to complete four place mat tops.

10. Create a quilt sandwich referring to Quilting Basics on page 48.

11. Quilt as desired.

12. Join the binding strips and bind the edges referring to Quilting Basics on page 48.

Completing the Blocks

1. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of 36 F squares.

2. With right sides together, position an F square from step 1 on one end of an E rectangle as shown in Figure 1a. Stitch on drawn line, trim¼" away from stitching and press open (Figure 1b). Repeat with a second F square on the opposite end of E to make one Flying Geese block. Press. Make 18.

Completing the Appliqués

1. Trace a Joy Pendant onto the center of a 5" square of white tonal. Using a small embroidery hoop, stitch "Joy" with 2 strands of black embroidery floss using a stem stitch.

2. Remove from hoop, press and iron fusible web onto the back. Trim to size.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to make a second Joy Pendant.

Completing the Table Topper

Refer to Assembly Diagram, Placement Diagram and project photos while completing.

1. Sew B strips to opposite ends of the A strip. Press.

2. Beginning with Pickup Truck No. 2 shapes, layer appliqués in numerical order on each end of the unit from step 1. Next add Snowman No. 4 and Joy Pendant appliqués. When satisfied with placement, fuse in place.

3. Using matching thread, machine blanket-stitch around each appliqué.

4. Referring to the Snowman Face Embroidery placement diagram, transfer markings and use 2 strands of black embroidery floss to stitch French knots for eyes and cross stitches for mouths on snowmen.

5. Sew C strips to each long side of the unit from step 4. Press. Sew D strips to each end. Press.

6. Join seven Flying Geese blocks to make a pieced side border as shown in Figure 2. Press. Make 2.

7. Alternately join two Flying Geese blocks and three F squares as shown in Figure 3. Press. Make 2.

8. Sew borders from step 6 to opposite long sides of the unit from step 5. Press. Sew borders from step 7 to opposite ends to complete the quilt top. Press.

9. Create a quilt sandwich referring to Quilting Basics on page 48.

10. Quilt as desired.

11. Join the binding strips and bind the edges referring to Quilting Basics on page 48.

12. Referring to General Instructions on page 5, use 2 strands of white embroidery floss to stitch "snowflakes" as desired on the background.
