About the Authors

Andrew Brown is a leading religious journalist and an editorial board member, leader-writer and feature writer for the Guardian. He also writes frequently for the BBC, Spectator and The Oldie. Andrew is the winner of the Orwell Prize for Political Writing, the Templeton European Prize for Religious Journalism and was shortlisted for the Aventis Prize for Science writing for his book In the Beginning was the Worm. He has been Press columnist for the Church Times since 1996.

Leon de Bruin is Senior Lecturer in Music at the University of Melbourne, Conservatorium of Music, and coordinator of the Master of Music-Performance Teaching degree program.

Timothy J. Groulx is Associate Professor of Music Educatio and is the area coordinator and graduate program coordinator for music education at the University of North Florida, USA. A native of Punta Gorda, Florida, he earned his Ph.D. in music education from the University of South Florida in 2010 where he was recipient of the Presidential Fellowship, and earned his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Teaching from Oberlin Conservatory in 1999. He is also active as a band adjudicator, guest conductor, and clinician.

Jane Southcott is Professor in the faculty of Education, Monash University, Australia. She is an internationally recognised historian and qualitative researcher. Jane is a music and arts educator with experience in primary, secondary, tertiary and informal educational settings. She has published and performed poetry, researched poetry and poets, and embedded poetry in her teaching and writing.

Andrew Sutherland is director of music at Methodist Ladies College and adjunct lecturer for the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
