Review

This book was incredible! I finished it a few days ago and am still digesting it. I haven't read anything like that in quite a while if ever. For once it seemed like the story was anything but the stock, ordinary typical conflicts of faith and life struggles we normally see in these books, mostly because so many people aren't brave enough to come out and share the difficulties that Cari overcame with God's strength and Eternal love while she faced down her demons and then some. I was totally into her emotional storyline, and feel like I learned something and have a new appreciation for what it's like for people who feel the way she does and what a challenge just living a life accepted by society and God is, but with Him anything is possible! Just so many wonderful elements to this book, it is almost on an epic scale, but impressively it doesn't get too convoluted. Recommend. Powerful. Haunting. Real. This was the first book I've read by this author Cari Gintz, but it definitely won't be the last! She has a real gift for writing descriptive and life-like scenes that bring this incredible story and her ordeals to life in an insightful and profound and extremely thought-provoking manner. I like that this book didn't feel stale or derivative of anything I've ever read before, but really asked and examined deep questions and issues about life and what it means to be a true child of God, and how people can be tempted and led in so many ways, good and bad. It is engaging, quirky, jaw-dropping, surprising, sad, and inspiring... all the qualities I look for in a good novel, and it delivered an emotional and spiritual win at the end. And those poems were simply lovely. Very Well done. (5 stars) Darlene Cupp - Goodreads; Barnes & Noble; Indie Book Reviewers

I will be the first to admit that this isn't my normal type of book, as I usually gravitate more toward secular fantasy romance or thrillers. But I wanted something more spiritually fulfilling, and when I started reading the opening pages, I found Cari's writing and narrative voice to be so engaging and authentic, I just wanted to get to know her and her story better. It was just so easy to read and sink right into, and there was never a place I wanted to 'stop', which actually surprised me. But on top of that, this was an emotional whirlwind rollercoaster that I was not expecting- even though we know from the description that it will be intense and edgy and dealing with very tough life and spiritual and sexual identity issues. From beginning to end I was totally into it. There are just so many elements to this book I was impressed with, from Cari's insightful narrative to her complex and evolving perspectives and relationships with family, romance and with God, to the profound and life-changing events that affected her so deeply. It all came together to create a powerful, unforgettable book. The ending was very bittersweet but absolutely beautiful for her mother. It's engaging and emotional without being melodramatic. The struggles of faith and with her sexual orientation she makes us realize again just how making the commitment to living for Christ can literally turn someone's life around and save them from so much suffering from Satan's evil doings. Great use of scripture throughout that make's plain God's love. Really liked the poems, and how it ends up...an inspiring message that I highly recommended.
