In 2017, I was teaching a class on emerging technologies to a group of Credit Union board members from around the country. The point of the session was to help these folks understand, in non-technical terms, what was happening with all of the new technologies that would be effecting their lives, and their businesses, in important ways. The session turned into an outlet for a bunch of questions about new technologies that they had no resource to ask. Realizing that there was a dearth of content on the subject, I assembled this guide to present many of these concepts in a fun, friendly way.
Brian Garr has spent over 30 years helping to build the computer industry as a CEO, COO, CRO, and CTO of various software startups, primarily in the artificial intelligence space, as well as a decade at IBM working on speech recognition and machine translation. In 1998 he was awarded the Smithsonian Institutes' "Heroes in Technology" award for his work in Machine Translation. He has published multiple white papers and documents on AI, as well as a chapter on Machine Translation in an AI textbook often used in college level courses. He has acted as a professional witness for AI specific legal cases. He lives in Boca Raton, Florida with his wife, Lisa, and his English Bull Terrier, Brandy.
