If I Should Die Before I Live is not a book about dying. It’s a book about paying attention while you're still alive.
In these pages, author, pastor, and radio broadcaster Ken Jones invites readers into a series of deeply personal and profoundly biblical reflections—anchored in a unique framework of seven metaphorical days that map the contours of every human life. From Someday (our dreams), to Any Day (our waiting), Every Day (our routines), Yesterday (our memories), Today (our presence), Tomorrow (our hopes), and finally A Day of Rest (our eternity), each chapter offers stories, Scriptures, and questions that shine light on what truly matters.
Not preachy. Rather, a book that helps readers reflect on their lives. And in doing so, he gives language to the longings and fears we often don’t know how to name. Drawing on decades of pastoral wisdom, radio storytelling, and life coaching experience, he speaks to the reader like an old friend on a front porch—pointing out what we often miss in the rush of living.
This is a book for people navigating transition. For those asking, What now? or What next? For those who feel stuck in a day they didn’t choose. For anyone who wonders if their story still matters—or if they’ve drifted too far from their own center.
Whether used for personal reflection, small group conversation, or as a thoughtful gift to a friend in a season of change, If I Should Die Before I Live will help readers hold everyday life up to the Light, and discover again the beauty, hope, and calling in their ordinary days.

Ken Jones: An Ordinary Guy, Holding Everyday Life up to the Light
I'm nobody special—just an ordinary guy with a common name like Jones. As a follower of Jesus, I've always been drawn to ordinary moments in everyday that most folks might overlook; small, quiet storylines in life that take on an eternal perspective when you hold them up to His light.
Maybe that's why I write. I don't have grand answers or fancy words—just stories that come from holding everyday life up to the Light of Jesus. Whether it's a memory from my years as a pastor, a thought sparked while playing an old hymn on the piano, or a reflection about a well-worn pocketknife I carry around, I've learned to see God's fingerprints in places most folks might miss.
People sometimes call me a Renaissance man, probably because I keep busy doing a bit of everything—writing, recording my weekly radio spot, A Classic State of Mind, coaching physicians, playing music. I guess I just like digging into the corners of life, seeing what wisdom's tucked away there. As a life coach (PCC certified), I walk alongside busy Christian physicians who are figuring out their own stories, helping them find hope and a little bit of light on their own winding paths.
At the end of the day, I'm a writer of words, and a teller of stories. I'm for sure a husband, dad, grandpa, and friend who's still curious about what God has to teach us all, as we hold everyday life up to His Light.
So, if you're looking for stories that don't preach but might make you pause, or think — stories and reflections that feel like they could've been your own — I'm glad you're here. An opportunity to hold everyday life up to the Light of Jesus. There's no telling what you might see.
