Synopsis
It has been forty years since the Airline Deregulation Act was signed into law in October 1978, and the far reaching effects of the act continue to be felt today. Intended to remove strict oversight by the government on airline routes, fares and services, the Airline Deregulation Act fostered competition, development of a hub-and-spoke system, as well as entry of new airlines in this free market. The decade following the Airline Deregulation Act saw several airlines both large and small start operations hoping to establish business in a specific niche market.

About the Author
Jon Jamieson has been interested in airlines and airplanes since his first flight at three years old. He soloed an airplane on his sixteenth birthday and received his pilot's license a year later. Over the next twenty years he amassed a large collection of airline memorabilia including airline histories, timetables, and an extensive 35mm slide collection. Focusing on the post 1978 airline deregulation era, Jon has a regular Departed Wings Facebook page as well as a website that celebrates airline and California airport histories. Departed Wings-Los Angeles LAX is Jon's second book. Jon lives in Southern California with his wife and two children.
