It’s the mid-1800s’ and William Chestnut must choose between imprisonment and exile while struggling to keep a hold of everything for which he has lived.
William wants to become something more than just a farmer but finds his grudges are holding him back. As he moves forward he realizes that forgiveness is the key that will heal him, and eventually help him save his children from the worst possible fate.
Inspired by a true story, “Grace and Grudges” is an absorbing historical adventure interwoven into the history of the Mormon Church and its early pioneers who lived in St Louis, Missouri in the mid-1800s.
When Missouri and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are mentioned together, one might contemplate the 1830s in Jackson County, the extermination order, mobs, and violence. In one eastern Missouri city (St. Louis), however, there was a completely different story.
Come and join William on his epic journey and immerse yourself into a time when wagons and horse carts ruled the roads and the ideals of the American dream shaped our society and culture. Get your copy of Grudges and Grace today!
Review:
"Grudges and Grace, the first volume of B.J. Salmond's Trial and Triumph, is a compelling and emotionally charged family saga that delves into the life of William Chestnut. Through the narrative of his daughter, Sarah, this book explores themes of redemption, perseverance, and the consequences of unchecked anger. It is a story that captivates and leaves readers reflecting on the power of forgiveness and the complexities of human nature.
One of the strengths of this book lies in its vivid and authentic characterization. The author brings William Chestnut to life, portraying his flaws, dreams, and struggles in a relatable and nuanced manner. William's journey from a disgraced businessman to a man seeking redemption is filled with emotional depth, making him a compelling and sympathetic protagonist. The book also excels in its exploration of themes such as family dynamics, resilience, and the consequences of one's actions. The complexities of forgiveness and the long-lasting impact of grudges are skillfully depicted, offering readers ample material for meditation. The intertwined narratives of William's personal growth and the generational impact of his story create a rich tapestry that engages the reader on multiple levels.
There is nothing I dislike about this book. The author skillfully interweaves suspense and action together. The characters were given unique voices. The book is exceptionally edited, and no errors were discovered in it. Based on its engaging narrative, well-developed characters, and thought-provoking themes, I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
I recommend this book to readers who appreciate family sagas and stories of personal transformation. This book is particularly suited for those who enjoy exploring complex characters and their emotional journeys. The tale of William Chestnut is a poignant reminder of the power of forgiveness, the consequences of unchecked anger, and the potential for redemption. It is a thought-provoking read that will resonate with readers long after the final page." - Flourish Sunday » 23 May 2023
