This incomparable resource contains detailed descriptions and maps for all South Africa's 19 national parks in one handy volume. From a single sanctuary established in 1926, SA now boasts a proud complement of 19 national parks that have been described by National Geographic as the finest area network in the world outside of the USA. This book introduces what is undoubtedly South Africa's most celebrated national treasure. It includes information that has never before appeared in print, along with 25 comprehensive maps that contain up-to-date data regarding the latest land purchases and tourist developments in each park and the recently established trans-frontier parks in neighboring countries. Essential details for visitors, interesting facts on wildlife distribution and information about guest facilities are presented in easily accessible tables and text boxes.

MICHAEL BRETT is an expert on African conservation and tourism. He holds a Master's degree in Protected Area Management and consults on conservation and tourism projects in southern Africa. He is the author of 12 books on South Africa, Kenya, and the National Parks of the USA.Review:
Touring South Africa's National Parks by Michael Brett is a lovely, soft cover book which gives a really interesting history of the National Parks in South Africa and their preservation and development, a unique concept started in the United States to be for public use instead of only royalty or hunting preserves. There are many National Parks in South Africa today, and each is given several pages in the book with several color photos of the animals and the region and a map with the history and facts of that park. This is a book you'll enjoy reading and looking at the photos. It also is a wonderful souvenir/guide to chooseing which ones to visit. Simple, interesting, and informative.
