When Mike Tomkies moved to a remote cottage on the shores of Loch Shiel in the West Highlands of Scotland, he found a place which was to provide him with the most profound wilderness experience of his life. Accessible only by boat, the cottage he renamed ‘Wildernesse’ was to be his home for many years, which he shared with his beloved German Shepherd, Moobli.

About the Author
Mike Tomkies was an acclaimed naturalist, writer and Hollywood film journalist who lived for 35 years in remote and wild places in the Scottish Highlands, Canada and Spain. In 1988 he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland. He wrote a number of best-selling nature books as well as a two-volume autobiography. He died in 2016.
