Wishes make worlds... Robert Mumpkin Myer talks to himself, a lot. If someone at the Myer Manor bothered to talk back, perhaps he would not feel so lonely. When a Willie Wagtail lures him up a tree, he is transported to a parallel universe. Nothing is what it seems, and his ordinary life becomes down the rabbit hole extraordinary. Will Robert return unchanged, or will he find the magic laying dormant in his heart since birth?

Reviewed by Jack Magnus for Readers' Favorite Robert Mumpkin Myer and the Wishmakers: The Robert Mumpkin Myer Series, Book One, is a children’s and preteen adventure fantasy written by Hayley Merelle. Robert lives with his parents, Miss Henry, his tutor as well as the maid, Mr. Bretticus, the gardener, and Mrs. Mac, the cook, in a huge rambling estate with plenty of woods and trees for a ten-year-old to explore and get lost in. He loves the great house and the secret places he’s discovered, but Robert is on his own most of the time. He wishes he could get to spend more time with his parents who seem to avoid him, and while he likes Miss Henry, he’d rather be attending a regular school so he could make friends and be with kids his own age. When he hears that his parents are going to be home one evening, he gets excited at the thought of spending some time with them, but he’s bitterly disappointed when they tell him that they’ll be having another of their parties in the room he’s not allowed to enter, ever. When he happens to look up at the window of that room, he’s amazed to see his parents talking to a strange globe that’s floating in the air, and within it is the face of an older man. Hayley Merelle’s adventure fantasy for children and preteens, Robert Mumpkin Myer and the Wishmakers: The Robert Mumpkin Myer Series, Book One, is a fast-paced and exciting tale set in a parallel dimension called the Upworld. Merelle peoples this world with marvelous and whimsical beings, including the real life form of Robert’s pet bunny, Mike. The author’s plot is original and imaginative, and her writing is fluid and smooth. This book should also be considered a coming of age story as Robert starts out as an introspective and lonely boy who is thrust into a role demanding intelligence, bravery and cunning, and how he handles this new responsibility is a joy to behold. I enjoyed reading Robert Mumpkin Myer and the Wishmakers: The Robert Mumpkin Myer Series, Book One and am wondering just what will happen next to Robert Mumpkin Myer in the sequel to this novel.About the Author:
