Synopsis
Stanley Baxter looks back to the great days of Glasgow comedy. In a series of brilliantly funny sketches and anecdotes, he introduces a cast of typical Glasgow characters: the ladies of Bearsden, the Glasgow Italians, Gloria and Clara the waitresses, and Tattie Bacchante, amongst many others. He also explores Glasgow's unique class divisions; the glottal stops, the uvular 'r', the mysteries of Bachles, Nyaffs and Dreeps and those special Glasgow appurtenances of wigs, wallies and wellies. The result is a unique introduction to the people and language of this vibrant and colorful city.

About the Author
Stanley Baxter is one of Scotland's best-loved comedians and actors. He was born in Glasgow in 1926 and made his professional debut in the Edinburgh Festival production of The Thrie Estates in 1948. He made many stage appearances in throughout the 1950s and 60s and became popular on television from the late 1950s with the series On the Bright Side, followed by Baxter On . . . (1964) and The Stanley Baxter Show (1968?-71). He lives in London.
