9781841768236: Modelling the P-40: Hawk 81, Tomahawk, Warhawk and Kittyhawk (Osprey Modelling)

The P-40 was a dependable warhorse that provided valuable service throughout World War II. The earliest operational variants were used to great effect by the famous 'Flying Tigers' in China, and the P-40 went on to serve in almost every theatre of the war. Modellers are well served with P-40 variants from major manufacturers and after-market companies, and this book helps make the most of the products available. The projects featured in clear step-by-step detail include a 1/32 'Flying Tiger' P-40B, an RAAF Kittyhawk Mk.IV in 1/48, a TP-40N two-seat trainer in 1/48 and an RAF Desert Kittyhawk in 1/72 scale. Superb colour reference photographs and detailed lists of kits and accessories available round off this authoritative treatment.

About the Author:

Brett Green is the editor of HyperScale (www.hyperscale.com), an online model magazine established in 1998, and a highly respected aviation modeller. He has published two books on the colours and markings of Luftwaffe aircraft: 'Augsburg's Last Eagles', on the late-war Messerschmitt Bf 109, and 'Stormbird Colors' on the Me 262. For Osprey Publishing he has written Modelling 2: 'Modelling the Bf 110' in 1/48 scale, Modelling 11: 'Modelling the P-47 Thunderbolt', and co-written 'US Army Fighter Modeling' in the Masterclass series. Brett lives in Sydney, Australia, with his wife and two children.

Review:

“Overall, this is a very welcome book which should be a great help in building any P-40 model... I'm always impressed by the work of Brett and the other authors and these builds should provide plenty of inspiration for other modellers of all abilities. The painting and weathering techniques illustrated have applications far beyond the specific subjects. Recommended.” ?Rowan Baylis, AeroScale

“...I found this latest addition to Osprey Publications Modelling Manual Series to be a very exciting as well as an informative read, although I will say again that it is a book geared towards the more experienced modeler... I feel that it would make a fine addition to the modeler's library shelves, providing a good resource for the P-40 warbird and its variants, for any level of modelist.” ?Mark Smith, AeroScale

Book Description Bloomsbury Publishing PLC, United Kingdom, 2005. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 244 x 182 mm. Language: English . Brand New Book. The P-40 was the most popular fighter in US service at the beginning of World War 2. It was the P-40 that had to try and deal with the initial Japanese onslaught over Pearl Harbor and the Philippines and it went on to serve in almost every theater of action in World War 2. Although often outclassed in terms of speed, maneuverability and rate of climb, the P-40 earned a reputation for extreme ruggedness and survivability. This title details a range of differing modeling projects involving the P-40, emphasising the wide range of variants and color schemes. It also contains detailed listings of all the kits and aftermarket products available for this heavily modeled subject. Bookseller Inventory # AAS9781841768236
