The art of Boris Vallejo is characterised by beautiful maidens, heroic men and fearsome monsters while the work of his wife Julie Bell is famous for a sense of colour and dramatic composition which puts her paintings in a class by themselves. As two of the most acclaimed fantasy artists working today, Boris and Julie have produced art for album covers, trading cards, posters and calendars for (in Boris' case) 30 years - as well as having 15 books of their work published under the Paper Tiger imprint. This book is a collection of all their greatest pieces throughout their careers, while also including some unseen new work. The book is arranged chronologically and divided into three main sections: early, middle and recent art. A narrative accompanies the paintings with full descriptive captions for many of the pieces. The pages are also punctuated by quotes from Boris and Julie's peers in the fantasy art field and fans of their work, who pay homage to their art and comment on how their work has inspired them to become better artists.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A scarce UK hardback copy of a 'wow, look at that' book. First edition, first impression, now enhanced by a protective sleeve around the dust jacket. About the jacket: the only defects appear to be a little bit of rubbing to the corners and at the top and bottom of the spine. About the book's covers: there's some rubbing to the bottom front corners and bottom of the spine, some pressing at the top of the spine and some very minor bumping to the top corners. The pages: between pages 163 and 192 there is a variably-sized faint stain towards the bottom outer edge of the page. At its biggest this is about 17 by 4 millimetres, at its smallest barely visible. Our guess is this was caused by somebody holding the book open with a damp thumb. It's a close match. We've uploaded a photo of two pages from that section, so you can see. There's no other markings to the text. Boris Vallejo - Julie Bell: The Ultimate Collection has an introduction by Bob Eggleton, other text is by Nigel Suckling. The book divides the artists' careers into Early Period, Middle Period and Late Period. There are interviews with them both (they are married) and comments from collectors and fans of their work. At the end there's a particularly interesting section about Photographs and Sculptures. Boris says: "The first thing to say about photography is that it is the beginning of our painting. I wouldn't say that we wouldn't be able to paint without it, but if we just painted from life it would look very different." Julie adds: "If you take one natural thing and imagine it to be something completely different, you can create a whole new possibility for a painting." Hence, for example, their fascination with insects - "it's like going into a completely different dimension where you find amazing warriors with jewel-like armour."
