Containing over 600 entries on British economic writers and thinkers, this Dictionary covers the period from John Duns Scotus in the fourteenth century to John Maynard Keynes and his followers in the twentieth. All the high-profile figures such as Petty, Locke, Tucker, Smith, Malthus, Ricardo, Senior, the two Mills, and Marshall appear here, but a key feature of this Dictionary is the inclusion of lesser-known figures whose work is important to the field and of great interest to modern scholarship.

He teaches courses on colonial and early U.S. history and the history of ideas in the Atlantic world, including the early U.S. history survey and upper-level and graduate courses on the American Enlightenment and American Revolution. His current research projects include a SSHRC-supported volume on David Hume as historian (contracted with Penn State University Press) and work on the American Enlightenment.Review:
“Almost 200 economists from around the world contributed meticulously edited essays to this biographical dictionary.... It merits not only consulting as a reference source on individual British economists but also for selective reading as a guide to the history of economic thought. These two volumes are recommended for the libraries of all graduate departments of economics and for large research libraries.” –American Reference Books Annual, Vol. 36, 2005 (American Reference Books Annual)
