About the Author
Thomas F. Madden is professor of medieval history and director of the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Saint Louis University. A recognized expert on the crusades, he has appeared in such venues as National Public Radio, PBS, and the New York Times. His publications include Crusades: The Illustrated History; The Fourth Crusade: The Conquest of Constantinople; Venice: A New History; Istanbul: City of Majesty at the Crossroads of the World; and The Concise History of the Crusades.
