D. James Kennedy is the author of Evangelism Explosion and the host of 'Truths that Transform' and 'The Coral Ridge Hour'
Jimmy Kennedy was a lonely Chicago kid from a difficult family background who rose, nevertheless, to be his High School Quarterback.
Moving to Florida, due to his father's health, he swapped the quarterback jersey for a tall hat to lead the High School band. Why? It meant he could get to college the only way he could afford - on a full music scholarship.
Then, to help pay his way through college, he ran a water-ski boat, played in a band and trained as a dance instructor.
I guess you could say that Jim was an overachiever!
Dancing, however, became his passion and he left College to pursue his dream of managing his own dance instruction business. Jim became a national dance champion at 22 years old and was earning a small fortune - about $300,000 a year in today's money.
But Jim's future was not in music and dance - but in the arms of a young lady called Anne, who suggested he really ought to go to church...

Mary Lou Davis, for many years a worker with Campus Crusade, now works with Campus Outreach, a student work of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama.
Turn on the television almost anywhere in America, and in many places all over the world, and there he is, Dr. D. James Kennedy. Open a magazine and there is an article by Dr. Kennedy. Visit on the right day in the nation's capitol and he is there. Thousands of churches have used 'Evangelism Explosion', his unique approach to gospel witness. Who is this remarkable man? For the benefit of those who do not know him well, The Truth that Transformed Me, is the remarkable account of one of the most beloved preachers of the late twentieth and early twenty-first century. This biography will both challenge the reader and inspire him in his own devotional walk with Christ. (Paige Patterson ~ President, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas)
"In this short biography, Davis presents presbyterian Church in America pastor D. James Kennedy as man of conviction, determined to overcome adversity and to excel. With warmth and humour, she successfully blends the highlights of his personal life and ministry. (Deborah Delk, Christan Retailing Magazine, USA)
It is an unassailable fact that Dr. D. James Kennedy through the ministry of Evangelism Explosion has done as much or more than any individual in the last 40 to 50 years to, not only promote evangelism but, provide an avenue to train every day Christians to participate in the joy of leading men and women to Christ. (Harry L. Reeder ~ Pastor of Preaching & Leadership, Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Birmingham, Alabama)
More than anybody I know, Dr. D. James Kennedy epitomizes evangelism and the sovereignty of God in his ministry. His influence on me has been profound. This well-written biography provides a history, wonderful anecdotes and insights into one of America's most powerful Christian leaders of our generation. (R. T. Kendall ~ Previous minister of Westminster Chapel, London)
