"I believe that practicing vets, students and all with an interest in welfare and behaviour (e.g. animal trainers, vet nurses, zoo staff) would benefit from reading this book." (C. Tiplady, University of Queensland 2011-01-01)
"This book is a useful and succinct introduction to the theoretical issues that currently impinge on animal welfare....Chapters provide introductions to the interwoven ethical, scientific, economic and legal frameworks that underpin our attempts to define, measure and improve the welfare of animals. It will be a valuable resource for those starting out in animal welfare research and for veterinarians and others pursuing post-graduate courses in animal welfare science, ethics and law." (Applied Animal Behaviour Science)
"...a refreshingly short book that is not only easy to read but also comes across as a sustained, coherent argument that can be read from cover to cover....The format of the book is excellent." (The Veterinary Record)
"This is a good 'Primer' on animal welfare, giving an excellent overview of the subject...in a way that is easily digestible by the non-expert." (Livestock Production Science)
"...recommended reading for the serious student of animal welfare." (Animals Today)
