The book explores the changing ways in which male-male sex and love have been perceived and experienced from the late Anglo-Saxon period to the present. About the Authors

Matt Cook is Jonathan Cooper Chair of the History of Sexuality at Mansfield College, University of Oxford, and Co-Director of Oxford's Centre for Women's, Gender and Queer History.

Robert Mills is Professor of Medieval Studies and Head of the History of Art Department at University College London, UK. Between 2015 and 2018, he directed qUCL, UCL's LGBTQ+ research network, and previously he was director of the Queer@King's research centre at King's College London, UK. His publications include Suspended Animation: Pain, Pleasure and Punishment in Medieval Culture (2005), Seeing Sodomy in the Middle Ages (2015) and Derek Jarman's Medieval Modern (2018). Mills is also co-editor of several volumes, including The Monstrous Middle Ages (2003) and Rethinking Medieval Translation (2012), and has published articles on topics ranging from medieval hagiography to queer theory and museums.

H.G. Cocks is Associate Professor of History at University of Nottingham, UK. He is the author of Visions of Sodom: Religion, Homoerotic Desire, and the End of the World in England, c 1550-1850 (2017), Classified: The Secret History of the Personal Column (2009) and Nameless Offences: Homosexual Desire in 19th-Century England (Bloomsbury, 2003).
