She is also an instrumental teacher and former head of music for schools in North Somerset, and has written a successful tutor book series for violin, viola and cello. This is her first project with Barefoot Books. David Sim was born in Glasgow. He studied graphic design at the Edinburgh College of Art in the UK, and illustration at the Royal College of Art, London. He then worked for many years in London for a wide range of clients, including magazines, design groups and advertising. He now works mainly for children's publishers, illustrating and designing. SteveSongs has been performing songs for children and families for more than five years. For Barefoot, he also worked on Knick Knack Paddy Whack (HC w/CD: 9781846861444; PB w/CD: 9781846863042). By blending participatory songs, clever stories and great melodies, he creates an interactive, educational and musical journey for his listeners. His music has won numerous awards, including a Parents Choice Gold Award, a CMW Best Audio Award, a NAPPA Honor and an iParenting Media Award. He currently lives in Connecticut.

From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-K—A farmer drives his tractor down a bumpy road through various seasons, gradually loading one cow, two donkeys, three pigs, four sheep, and five chickens onto his trailer. When his filled vehicle hits a stone, the grinning load shakes loose and all escape. By the time the farmer arrives home, he is greeted by all the critters. This tale is ideal for storytime with its rhyming text, fun sounds, and refrain, "Chug, chug, clank, clank, toot! It's a very busy day." This is a jolly read-aloud, and the accompanying CD with a jazzy version adds to the charm, with both an instrumental track and SteveSongs (of PBS fame) singing the text. In addition to a page of the music, the book's extras include a spread of farm vehicles with brief descriptions of their purposes and another of a dozen different types of crops, explaining when they're grown. Dobbins's text, with its bounty of information and fun, is well matched with Sim's cartoonlike, folk art illustrations in acrylics and pastels.—Gay Lynn Van Vleck, Henrico County Library, Glen Allen, VA
