9781847530370: Tales from the Captain's Table

Much more than just a tale of sailing against mountainous seas, but a book with every aspect of sailing and motor boating, in many parts of the world. It illustrates how times have changed to the extent the stories are never to be repeated. Providing a more permanent record, it tells how in post-war Britain, we developed a system of teaching and testing recreational users of marine craft of every description. This has now been copied in almost every country with recreational waterborne sports, including a UK approved sailing school in the USA. If all that sounds a mighty bit boring, be assured it has ten most unusual stories with excitement, including projects in China and Nigeria. There are tales of law-breaking villains afloat, and you won't want to put the book down. Looking for a present for a sea-loving friend? Look no further.

From the Publisher:

Difficult to justify any single classification, as the stories are so varied in their content, and should therefore interest a very wide readership. Certainly the only book of this type on our listings, it should sell well in all English speaking countries. Supporting the text of many chapters, are some lovely sketches illustrating an aspect of a tale.

From the Author:

I'm sure it is much easier to write a novel rather than relate true stories. Very few authors of the latter would wish to fill a book with contentious text, even if he/she regarded it as true.

I have therefore taken great care in the selection of which tales to tell, and to camouflage any person who might feel offence, either by name or place, or both. Where I have used the names of a notable person, such as the late Sir Edward Heath, a former Prime Minister, and the late Don Juan de Bourbon, the father of the King of Spain, I feel justified as my comments are are highly complimentary.

Care has also been taken to ensure that all readers will feel it is a book for them, and it's certainly not all seafaring and enduring mountainous waves. And most importantly, each chapter ends on a happy or humourous note.
