About the Author
KENARD PAK grew up in Baltimore and Howard County, Maryland. After studying at Syracuse University and California Institute of the Arts, he worked in feature animation and music videos. As a visual development artist, he's worked for Dreamworks, Walt Disney Feature Animation, PDI Dreamworks, and he currently works for Laika. His first illustrated picture book was published in 2014. His current picture book projects are self-penned as well as illustrated; the first book will publish in 2016. Kenard lives in San Francisco with his wife and three cats.BEN HANDICOTT studied linguistics and education before heading off to learn Vietnamese and Mandarin over a number of years living in Asia. On his return home he published travel books for Lonely Planet and now looks to pass on his love of travel, food and language to his own children.

K-Gr 4—This visually appealing atlas notes the many different languages that are spoken around the world. After being introduced to the topic continent ("Welcome to Europe"), readers are given a bit of background information on that region (e.g., romance languages) and are then taken on a linguistic journey through each country. Very basic expressions (greetings, salutations) are translated from English into the different languages. Although the enticing illustrations heavily feature children, they would likely also resonate with older readers. The book is accompanied by a free downloadable app that sonically explores the tongues presented.
