What can Lily’s grandma be when she grows up? An artist, someone that makes candy, a doctor, a fairy . . . so many possibilities!
Every child is asked what they would like to be when they grow up, but Lily decides to turn the tables by asking her grandma the same question! What answer will Grandma give? This enchanting book illustrates the touching bond between a grandparent and grandchild.

Nanette Newman is a well-known actress who has appeared in many films, including The Raging Moon and The Stepford Wives. She is also a successful author who has written many books, including more than thirty children’s books.
Emma Chichester Clark studied at the Royal College of Art, where she was taught by Quentin Blake. She has written and illustrated many acclaimed picture books and was short-listed for the Kate Greenaway medal in 1998.
Lily asks her grandmother,“What do you think you’ll be when you grow up?” But she doesn’t exactly cotton to Grandma’s response that, well, she is already grown up. So, with each turn of the page, Lily suggests just what granny can be: a lady who goes to schools and frees students from lessons, or maybe an artist who paints faces (and of course Lily is the helper nearby holding Grandma’s paints). Or perhaps she could be a special doctor giving magic kisses to fix up scraped knees. The free-spirited watercolor illustrations picture the quite young-looking grandma in each new role and give a lighthearted touch to the basic text. In the too-pat ending, Grandma just wants to be a grandma as she tucks Lily into bed at night. With definite charm and an interesting premise, this would be a great gift from grandma to granddaughter or a great read-aloud in schools for Grandparents Day. Preschool-Grade 2. --Patricia Austin
