9781849083102: Humber Light Reconnaissance Car 1941–45 (New Vanguard)

The iconic vehicle of the British Army's Reconnaissance Corps during World War II, the Humber Light Reconnaissance Car (LRC) saw service in several theatres of war between 1941 and 1945. The Humber LRC gave excellent service to the Reconnaissance Corps with its agility, speed and height proving to be invaluable assets to the units that operated it. Using numerous photographs, and newly commissioned artwork, this book looks at the development of the LRC, its use by the Reconnaissance Corps and its importance to British infantry divisions in the theater in which it served.

About the Author:

Historian, writer and broadcaster Richard Doherty is the author of eighteen books of military or police history. His books include Only The Enemy in Front (1994), the first history of the Reconnaissance Corps to be published since 1947. He has researched and presented several series for BBC Radio Ulster, including the much-acclaimed 'Sons of Ulster' and 'Generals' and has also presented TV programs on the battle of the Boyne (1690). Chairman of the Irish Regiments Historical Society, he is also a Trustee of two regimental museums: The Royal Irish Regimental Museum in Ballymena and the Museum of The Royal Irish Fusiliers in Armagh.

Review:

“This well-written book is full of interesting insights about the Humber LRC as well as inspirations for model making or building dioramas with military miniatures.” ―Toy Soldier & Model Figure (July 2011)

“...this book has opened my eyes to the possibilities really good reference materials can open up when you're finally ready to start building a model, and this is really good reference material!  At 48 pages, it is a good read, with all the info one needs to understand the purpose and use of the car, and the photos are priceless for the modeler.” ―Gary Telecsan, IPMS/USA

“...a great source for enthusiasts of this particular model as well as those interested in the history of British reconnaissance units during WW2.” ―C. Peter Chen, www.ww2db.com
