Today, the Land of Oz lives on in many different forms, and its creator, L. Frank Baum, would be astounded at what his offspring has wrought. More than 100 years after that classic novel’s publication, London illustrator Leech and fashion stylist Read-Baldrey collaborate again (Everything Alice, 2011, was their previous book together) to provide Yellow Brick Road items to fans of all ages. The 50 pieces offer some wonderful options in easy-to-do crafts and cuisine: for instance, a bluebird wreath; a Cowardly Lion hand puppet; pistachio popcorn (natch, from the Emerald City); Toto’s dog jacket (better not try this on a pooch larger than a cairn terrier); and cyclone cupcakes. Directions are effusively written; illustrations fill in any conceivable gaps in the instructions. Sidebars are delightful, from a quiz to determine what kind of witch you are to memorable quotes from and facts about the wizard and his gang. Yellow Brick Roadies, unite! --Barbara Jacobs
