Rebecca Chandler's life is changed forever when she buys an old rocking chair with dramatic consequences. Made from the wood from the ancient humming tree, the chair takes Rebecca on an incredible journey into the past, where, in order to fulfil an old gypsy's prophecy foretold in the seventeen-hundreds, she becomes drawn into the lives of the warm-hearted, yet tragically ill-fated Lancaster family, whose increasing dependency on her commits her ever-deeper to a new and very challenging life in a bygone era. But Rebecca jeopardises her new-found happiness when she tempts fate and returns to the twenty-first century on occasions of necessity.
