This is the first major comprehensive book on the history and evolution of antique glass bottles, flasks and jars between 1500 and 1850. It includes the most comprehensive world-wide bibliograpy on glass bottles ever produced, listing 1,150 titles,an extensive glossary and a separate 16-page price guide booklet.

The history and evolution of glass bottles is chronologically (1500-1850, the pre-industrial period) described in a general chapter.

Bottles illustrated in the book are systematically classified in separate chapters by country :Great Britain, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Scandinavia, Alpine Countries, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and America.

About the Author

Willy Van den Bossche was born in Belgium in 1943 where he graduated in industrial engineering, specialising in glass technology. For two years he worked as a plant engineer in the bottlemaking industry in Belgium where he developed a passion for modern and antique bottles and their history.

Since 1971 he has worked as a chief patent examiner in the field of glass technology at the European Patent Office. For more than thirty years he has been a serious collector of European antique bottles, flasks and jars (1500-1850) and their associated literature world-wide, spending the last ten years preparing this book. He has lectured and written a number of articles on antique bottles.
