This comprehensive Bibliography of Glass is a compilation of 3,500 selected books alongside several important articles and other sources on glass and glass making in various languages from the earliest times to the present (2011). It is an exceptional work of reference and compendium in terms of the world-wide overview it provides of books on glass, glass technology, the art of glass, glassware, glass collections, exhibition catalogues, museum catalogues, sales catalogues and manuscripts relating to glass. This work of reference has been compiled for libraries, sellers of new and antiquarian books, collectors, historians, researchers, glass museums and any other institutions and individuals interested in ancient, antique or modern glass. A separate General Index and a Co-Authors Index facilitate the finding of titles and their authors as they relate to particular subjects. The works cited are arranged in alphabetical order according to authors' last names and any title lacking the name of the author has been included under the heading Anonymous. Four hundred and fifty museums from all over the world have been catalogued, creating a book within a book. Wherever possible details of the authors, collectors, glass works, glass museums, institutions, companies, auctioneers and publishers are provided, with supplemental information such as their places of origin or business, age and dates of birth, death, foundation and closing. Titles of works are given in their original language and all works are provided with their dimensions (Height x Width) in cm. Text in English, German, French and Dutch.

Willy Van den Bossche was born in Belgium in 1943 where he graduated from the Industrial College of Mechlin (Mechelen) with a degree in industrial engineering in 1967 and then specialised in glass technology. For two years he worked as a plant engineer in the bottle making industry in Belgium. From 1971 until his retirement he worked as a Chief Patent Examiner in the field of glass technology at the European Patent Office (EPO). For more than 40 years he has been a serious collector of antique glass, as well as literature on glass, the art of glass and glassmaking from all over the world. The publication of this book marks the culmination of 10 years of research and work. He is also the author of the major reference book 'Antique Glass Bottles - Their History and Evolution (1500-1850) - A Comprehensive, Illustrated Guide - With a World-wide Bibliography of Glass Bottles' also published by Antique Collectors' Club in 2001.Review:
'It is a book without illustrations and without a story but with an overwhelming amount of information that will be of value for generations to come. The 'Bibliography of Glass' is a compilation of 3,500 books and a few important articles on glass and glassmaking; user friendly, thanks to the many cross-references that makes it easy to find book titles and authors. In order to place the books in their time-frame, the years of the authors births and deaths have been recorded. It contains worldwide information on books that cannot easily be found on internet, such as those published between 1600 and 1950, as well as those published in a limited edition or in uncommon languages. Of course, this is not a book to be read as a story but nevertheless one soon becomes fascinated with the content of it. The catalogue, over 30 pages of 450 museums worldwide, that have to do with glass alone will keep you busy for quite a while. I know of no other book that can compare with this bibliography, neither will there be one published in the next decades for I cannot think of anyone dedicated enough to spend ten years of his life compiling it. It is a must for museums, universities, libraries and everyone seriously interested in the history and evolution of that wonderful material that is created by fusing dull and common composites such as sand, lime and soda ash.
