Reviews

This manual is designed for beginning potters who are setting up their own studios or taking classes. It covers all the basics of preparing clay, working with pottery equipment, and designing, glazing, and firing pots. Several elementary projects are included with illustrations and step-by-step instructions. The terminology is British, which should not create problems for American users, but the suppliers listed are all in England. This book would be handy for the beginner, but most potters would advance beyond it fairly quickly. There are other basic pottery books available that cover the same ground and more. (See, for instance, Peter Cosentino's The Encyclopedia of Pottery Techniques , LJ 9/15/90.) Only for crafts collections needing more books for beginners.
