This book contains the proceedings of the Thirteenth International Conference on Boundary Element Technology (BETECH 99), and the papers presented at the Second Seminar on Computational Methods and Testing for Engineering Integrity. These meetings were at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, June 8-10, The meetings were organised by the Department of Mathematical Sciences (College of Science) and the Department of Mechanical Engineeirng (College of Engineering) of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and the Wessex Institute of Technology, Southampton, UK.
The BETECH series of conferences started in Adelaide, Australia in 1985 and brings together industrial users, boundary element researchers and research code developers, who discuss novel advances in BEM. The organizers of BETECH 99 recognized the need to bridge the gap between engineers working with the BEM, who tend to focus on the development of new algorithms and applications, and mathematicians, who tend to concentrate on theoretical considerations. Thus, this volume contains a large of number of contributions from mathematicians.
The papers from the BETECH conference are divided into ten sections: Fluid Flow, Heat Transfer, Shape Optimization, Stress Analysis, Vibrations and Dynamics, Electrostatics and Electromagnetics, Industrial Applications, Radial Basis Functions, Special Methods and Computational Aspects.
The papers from the symposium on Computational Methods and Testing for Engineering Integrity are divided into three sections: Fracture and Fatigue, Simulation, and Behaviour of Materials.
